The Nott Group were asked by a housing developer who had purchased a site and then commissioned a site investigation with chemical testing. The consultant had recommended comprehensive remedial works to the value of £450k. This had been agreed with the Local Planning Authority and Contaminated Land Officer without the client's consent or prior knowledge.
Following a review of the information and testing undertaken, we concluded that no widespread remedial works were required for the site and we recommended that only limited remedial works should be undertaken. The Nott Group were asked to repeat the contamination testing and develop a revised conceptual model. We developed a remedial strategy that required considerable less remedial works at a cost of £110,000. This was then subsequently negotiated and agreed with the Local Planning Authority and Contamination Officer. A robust risk assessment identified remedial costs savings of approximately £340,000 ultimately making the site feasible for development.
